Frosted Fudge Brownies

Frosted Fudge Brownies

Here at Basically Baked there is a lot of monkey see monkey do going on. Since the New Year I’ve baked three recipes from Cookie Madness. I’ll post photos and reviews of all of them eventually, but I’m starting out with these frosted brownies. I was wanting brownies, and I knew my husband would go for them since brownies are one of his favorite things. They really hit the spot!

The brownie is moist and not super dense, but not cakey either. The frosting reminded me of the icing used on Texas Sheet Cake but the method is a little different. My frosting was very pourable. Anna mentioned that hers was more spreadable than pourable. I put mine on right after mixing it together and the brownies were still hot out of the oven.

I made two changes from Anna’s recipe. I used walnuts because I have some to use up, and I only had enough Hershey’s cocoa for the brownie, so I used Penzey’s Dutch cocoa for the frosting. These are super easy to mix together. The only hard part is waiting for the frosting to set up so you can cut into them for your first taste.

I find myself copying Anna a lot, too. 😉 She seems to have all the books and all the recipes that I don’t have and when she posts something so yummy, I just have to try it. I was actually going to bake these last week, but ended up with some other projects at hand.

    Hi Katrina!
You should give these a try and then let Anna and I know what you think. My husband and I liked them a lot and usually my preference is for un-frosted brownies. I’m glad I tried these!

    Frosted perfection…these look wonderful.

Sue served these last weekend with the Texas Sheetcake icing and they were wonderful! I don’t usually frost brownies, thinking they are plenty rich and sweet as it is, but this frosting was perfect.

Earlier this week I baked the “Bobby Flay Chocolate Hazelnut Brownies” which somebody discussed in Anna’s comments, I think for this Frosted Brownie Recipe. When I tried them a couple hours after baking, the milk chocolate ganache frosting was kind of cloying, but by the next day the flavors seemed to mellow out. I really like the hazelnuts in every bite.

As for me, I sometimes refer to myself as a “cheap Salsa Dancer”, but the neighbors call me the”Renaissance Woman” because of all the different things I do. The gavitar I use is an Elinor Peace Bailey doll, which I make. I make hypertufas, which are pots made from cement, perlite, peat, and sand. I make garments of all kinds as my mom was a seamstress, so I’ve done that my whole life. Right now I’m making these http://duhbe.com/blog/2009/07/how-to-make-duhbe-fabric-roses/ At Christmas I make wreaths from greens I get at yard waste. I’m a Penn State Master Gardener and I excel at turf. You probably read something about my cookie baking on Anna’s blog. At Christmas, a columnist on our newspaper puts together driving routes of the best Christmas lights and he raises money for Second Harvest by taking bids to go out with people. The winners also get a two pound box of my cookies. This year he raised $15,000. I Salsa dance every Friday night and you can see my website http://www.lehighvalleysalsa.com . It’s a little screwed up right now as MeetUp completely changed the format about three weeks ago. So, that’s all about me. Oh, and the other stuff keeps me from cooking and baking all of the time. 🙂

Wow! You really are a renaissance woman! Thanks for introducing yourself here. 🙂 Your comment on Anna’s blog about the cupcakes really gave me a good laugh and I’m happy to ‘get to know you’ a little better!!
Right now I’m headed out the door but later today I’ll take a look at the links you sent.
I’m especially interested in your doll making. I just made the second doll of my adult life. I had a blast making her. Her skirt needs to be redone, and she needs more hair, but I’m pleased with the rest of her especially considering she’s my first real attempt.
Oh! About the brownies. I love these brownies!! BF’s Chocolate Hazelnut Brownies sound amazing. I love chocolate and hazelnuts together!!! I have to look at that recipe!!
