A CCC link

June 30, 2011

Lisa at Sweet as Sugar Cookies went on a baking quest to find her favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. Being the baking geek that I am, I love her comparison tables and admire her for all the work she put into baking the cookies and blogging about the results. I know that most of you will also want to know how some pretty famous recipes fared. Check out Lisa’s post where she talks about her top four favorite recipes, shares the comparison table, and provides links to the recipes.

Wine

August 30, 2009

This post is as much for myself as it is for all of you. I enjoy a glass of wine from time to time, and when I indulge I like to know that it’s going to be a worthwhile indulgence. The problem is that I don’t really know anything about wine. Sometimes I stand at the liquor store looking at all of the options and have little idea which bottle to walk out the door with. Yesterday I considered buying a bottle of Pinot Noir, but walked out of the liquor store empty handed because they didn’t have either of the two that I’ve enjoyed in the past and I didn’t want to waste the money on something that I’d end up pouring down the sink or figuring out a way to bake into something.
This morning when I ought to be doing something more productive I’m sitting here at the computer and I stumbled upon this site. There is a plethora of information there and now I feel like I can read up before I head out to purchase a bottle, and hopefully that purchase will be a little more thoughtful and tasty than in the past.
Are there places on the Internet that you’ve found helpful to learn more about wine? If so, I’d love to know about them. Feel free to post links in the comment section.

Unhealthy foods

March 14, 2009

As you can see from the recipes I’ve posted on this blog I’m no stranger to less than healthy foods, but while I was surfing the net a moment ago I ran across this article and the information listed there for the “Top Ten Worst Foods of 2009” was truly shocking. I don’t even want to think about what is in the spaghetti with meatballs from Macaroni Grill to get the fat and calorie counts that high!

Speaking of unhealthy foods I have a few recipes to post, along with photos. I’m still catching up after February being so busy, but I will get back to the blog. Really I will!

Top Ten Recipes for Inauguration Day?

January 16, 2009

Early this morning while I was searching the Internet for a particular salad recipe I stumbled upon this. It’s an article that lists President Elect Barack Obama’s favorite foods. What I find interesting is this is from an online British publication. Who knew that the rest of the world cared a whip about what our President Elect likes to eat, and do those articles really have anything to do with what Mr. Obama likes to eat?

The recipe the article links to for Sweet Potato Pie is a case in point. When Mr. Obama announced to his Ohio audience that he loves Sweet Potato Pie, I don’t imagine that the recipe on The Times Online comes even close to what he was referring to. Granted, it could be exactly what he meant, but I’m thinking he had the dessert version in mind when he made that reference.

So is the article just an effort to grab attention? Probably, but it’s interesting that what an American leader eats would grab the attention of people across the ocean.

To celebrate Mr. Obama’s inauguration I plan to make shortbread. Mrs. Obama shared her recipe with the world, but I plan to make a different recipe.  A dear friend has an incredible Scottish Shortbread recipe, and I hope to make that. I’m sure that Mrs. Obama’s recipe is good, but I’m going with a sure thing. I might even pop some bubbly to celebrate the event.
